Transitioning From Summer To Fall: How To Get Away With Keeping Your Summer Clothes Out Of Storage

By Amanda Cohen on October 3, 2015

Wednesday, September 23, 2015, marked the first day of fall, also commonly known as sweater and boots season. However, just because our calendars may no longer have the headline “summer,” there are some articles of clothing from our summer wardrobes that are perfectly acceptable to wear in the fall.

Cleaning out your closet to make room for sweaters can be burdensome, but here are some articles of clothing that you can keep in the closet and out of the storage bins.

Rompers

Rompers are my favorite clothing items to wear, and I know I’m not alone in this opinion. Whether the romper has spaghetti straps, short-sleeves, quarter-sleeves, or long-sleeves, doesn’t matter, and here’s why.

Rompers that bear your shoulders and/or the majority of your arms can still be worn for two reasons. First, fall might be here, but the cold breeze hasn’t been strong enough to put these fashion statements away. Two, when it does get chillier, you can top these rompers with a fun solid-colored cardigan if the romper has patterns, or even a flannel if the romper is a solid color.

Party” Pants

“Party” pants are the patterned pants made out of stretchy material that all girls love to wear when they are trying to be cute, but comfy. Many people think that these pants have to be put away after summer because of the light material and the bright patterns, however that is not the case!

“Party” pants come in all different colors and patterns and can be worn with all sorts of tops other than short-sleeves and camisoles. You can keep the party going in the fall with these pants by wearing them with an off-the-shoulder, solid-colored sweater and a pair of booties; it is that simple!

Cuffed Jeans

When the cold breeze starts to mess up your hair, you may take it as a signal to put away your ankle and mid-calf-bearing jeans, but once again there is a way you can keep wearing these pants that can be dressed up or dressed down!

Cuffed jeans are perfect for the fall because the majority of your legs are covered, but parts of your legs are left bear so that you can accessorize with fun booties! The start of fall equates the start of boots and booties season; dark colored booties are the perfect way to take a pair of pants that would normally be worn in the summer and make them into the trendiest outfit for the fall.

Also, wearing an oversized long-sleeved shirt or a tank top with a cardigan over it accentuates the autumn vibes even more.

Loose Skirts

Skirts pose the same dilemma as dresses do in the fall: bare legs. In the summer, you will see hundreds of Instagram pictures captioned #nofilter of a girl and her friend on the beach with their skirts and hair blowing in the wind. Here’s a fun fact: stockings are back in style and they look great under loose skirts.

Depending on the color of the skirt, you should choose between light gray, charcoal, or black stockings to give your summer skirt an autumn flare. Pair this look with a long-sleeve top, a light off-the-shoulder sweater, or a silk camisole with a leather jacket over it!
