Since the semester is almost over, you’ll be going home for winter break soon and when you come back to your college apartment in January, it will be as cold as ever!

Sometimes when you have to spend a while at home, it’s hard to feel at home in your apartment again. A great way to remedy this is to make your apartment cozy for winter.

It’s amazing what simple and subtle things you can do to your bedroom and apartment to make it feel like a cozy getaway from all the stress of school. The only bad thing is that you may never want to leave your apartment afterwards!

Here are a few tips to get your apartment warm and cozy for the cold winter ahead.

1. Dim Lighting

Dim lighting can make any room cozy and give the atmosphere a calm feeling. You can give any room in your apartment dim lighting by adding string lights and other small lights to the walls and doorways.

Once you turn the main bright lights off, you’ll feel like you completely transformed your room. As it is also very easy to hang up these lights, you can have your apartment feeling cozier within minutes!

2. Warm Comforters and Lots of Blankets

It’s always nice to have blankets around your apartment in the winter time because sometimes you feel as if you can never get warm from those long walks around campus.

You and your roommates can have blankets around the living area to feel calm and comfortable when relaxing after classes. You can also get a warm or fluffy comforter for your bed, along with adding lots of blankets and pillows to be surrounded in comfort when you are sleeping or just hanging out.

3. Candles and Scents

Candles create the ultimate warm and calming atmosphere for your apartment. You should get wintry scented candles such as sugar cookie, cinnamon apple, or fresh snow for the extra winter vibe.

However, depending on the rules of your apartment complex, some do not allow burning candles; if that is the case, you can always get plug-in wall air fresheners and use the battery operated candles if you still want the flickering lights in your apartment.

4. Rugs

Rugs are great if you do not have carpet in certain rooms, especially your bedroom and living area. Hard floors can be extremely cold in the winter, so try adding a rug — even to your kitchen — to make it warmer and feel cozier while you’re doing everyday things around your apartment.

Shag and fluffy rugs are the best for making rooms feel cozier, but you can choose whichever rugs you personally prefer.

5. Neutral Colors

Having neutral colors in your bedroom and apartment in the winter can make it feel much more cozy than bright and neon colors. Try having colors like white, grey, light blue, and tan around your apartment this winter and save the bright yellows and pinks for the spring!

The picture above contains a wide range of neutral colors and it looks very classy and definitely warm and cozy for winter time.
