Revise … drink … revise

Most college students believe that with midterms around the corner revising is inevitable for a good grade. Revisiting topics that were covered earlier on in the semester and making notecards is a common strategy used by many college students to improve memorization.

According to Dr. Corinne Allen, founder of the Advanced Learning and Development Institute, our brain cells needs twice as much energy than other cells in our bodies. Water is needed for the production of hormones and neurotransmitters that stimulate electrical energy necessary for proper cerebral functions such as thought and memory processes.

So the next time you decide to revise 20 lecture slides from the beginning of the semester, remember to revise … drink … revise.

Sign up for newsletters; there is always free food around campus

It is always a pain to prepare meals during midterms because there is no time to Google search for elaborate meals on Betty Crocker. The only thing left to do is what most college students do: find free food on campus. There are many on-campus activities that provide free food just by showing up.

Volunteer at on-campus and off-campus events

This is an easy way to give back to the community while earning a free meal for your time and effort.

Attend club events on campus

Fill your social calendar with these events that occur on campus and usually provide snacks or meals for its members.

Hang around campus restaurants for free samples

With student financial budgets and little or no time to prepare meals, this is an easy way to earn your share of a free bite from restaurants on campus.

Download the Lunchbox app

This free Android and iPhone app allows students to connect online and find free meals anywhere on campus.

Don’t go broke from buying coffee

It is no question that most college students crave coffee as their daily source of fuel.

The Mayo Clinic reveals that “caffeine is used by millions of people every day to increase wakefulness, alleviate fatigue, and improve concentration and focus.”

However, college students become easily addicted to coffee and end up spending a lot of money on this mild “addiction.” It is important to not go broke from buying too much coffee; for every dollar you think to spend, save that and invest it in a coffee maker. This will help you save hundreds of dollars per semester and save the inconvenience of having your name spelled incorrectly at Starbucks.

Spring break around the corner … eyes on the horizon

It is easy to lose focus when you think of spring break being only a week away. We all become immersed in our imagination far away from the dull lecture halls and hushed whispers of students discussing why “global warming is getting worse.” Who cares? No, but you should care. Being focused on your academics goals is important for being successful in that course.

It is easy for us to zone out and become distracted with activities happening around us on campus. Making the sacrifice to tell your roommate “no” to that party invite the night before your biology finals is acting in your best interest. Keep your eyes on the horizon as you remain resolute to make it through midterms.

“Don’t worry bout a thing; cause every little is gonna be alright”

Most of you are familiar with the words of reggae icon Bob Marley and should consider it your mantra after walking out of that last exam and submitting that final paper online. Spring semester can be stressful, but if you made the right study decisions then you will survive midterms. Once midterms are complete there is not much you can do but enjoy the 10 days of spring break either tanning on a beach in Florida or visiting your grandparents in their cabin up north.

No matter what you have planned for spring break, during midterms week, “every little thing is gonna be alright.”
